Our People

TOM GALOPOULOS

Founder

If you’ve ever met Tom Galopoulos, you’ll know he doesn’t do anything quietly. Fiercely driven, full of stories, and always ready with a glass in hand, Tom is the beating heart of Driftwood Wines.

His journey began in northern Greece, where his family grew grapes and lived by the rhythm of the land. When they migrated to Fremantle in the 1950s, Tom quickly learned the art of hustle — from shining shoes to running his family’s bustling café. That spark never dimmed.

Decades later, a family holiday house in Margaret River turned into something much bigger. The vines went in, and Driftwood was born — a place where hard work meets good wine and great company.

Every bottle still carries Tom’s unmistakable energy: bold, generous, and full of life. He built Driftwood the only way he knows how — with passion, grit, and a good dose of fun.

HEATHER GALOPOULOS

Co-Founder

Helen Galopoulos has been part of the Driftwood story from the very beginning, shaping the winery alongside her family with quiet strength, care, and an unwavering commitment to community.

Drawn to the Margaret River lifestyle and the idea of building something meaningful together, Helen helped transform a family retreat into a place centred on connection, hospitality, and shared experiences.

Her influence is felt throughout Driftwood, from the welcoming atmosphere at cellar door to the way the estate brings people together around food, wine, and celebration. Helen’s role has always been about creating spaces where people feel at home, whether they are visiting for the first time or returning year after year.

At its heart, Driftwood reflects Helen’s belief in family, generosity, and the simple joy of gathering well.

KANE GROVE

Senior Winemaker

Kane Grove has always had dirt under his nails and wine in his veins. Growing up in Margaret River, he was surrounded by vines long before he knew they’d shape his life. What began as a weekend job at Leeuwin Estate soon turned into a lifelong passion — one built on curiosity, hard work, and a deep respect for the land.

A self-confessed science nerd, Kane sees winemaking as both art and experiment — equal parts precision and romance. His time across Australia, New Zealand, and Europe gave him perspective, but Margaret River was always home.

Since joining Driftwood Estate in 2017, Kane’s thoughtful, hands-on approach has earned the winery gold medals and glowing reviews. He believes great wine starts in the vineyard and finishes with heart. For Kane, every vintage is a story — one told through the fruit, the season, and the joy of sharing it.
